In the collection filtering tab i have several different filters to use. But i don't understand how these filters work. i want to filter by product tag but it doesn't work. Is there any way i can select these filters by tag or by different collections?

Regarding your question, you have to add tags on your product to make the filter works.
For example. Following your attached file, we have the Filter by Brand, then the options are : Afends , Brixton, Insight, Poler. These option will be displayed in the left side bar of collection page :https://rt-material.myshopify.com/collections/all
Those filter will be grey out if you don't add tags on your products.
You have to go to Product admin, select the products and then add tags. If a product has the tags called: Brixton. when you choose the option as Brixton on the side bar filter, the result will display that product. As you can see, we have 8 products have the tag called Brixton.
Hope this makes sense.

I do have the tags on the products and the filter is not grey out, but when i click it for it to filter it just doesn't filter it only refreshes.

I just checked the issue but there is nothing wrong.
I selected the "sort" collections : http://sadhanaclothing.com/collections/shorts. it shows me 12 products without 'Yoga Series'
When a choose running series , it shows 3 products: http://sadhanaclothing.com/collections/shorts?constraint=running-series
I clear the filter and choose Crossfit Series . it shows me 1 product http://sadhanaclothing.com/collections/shorts?constraint=crossfit-series
Other products don't shows because they don't contain those 3 tags.
Please help me check again.
